The pandemic of 2020 has been unprecedented, and the effect in the realm of education has been no less impactful. The type of leadership character of the most value within an organization during a time of change and uncertainty, such as these, are those that help others to weather the storm more easily because of their actions, attitudes, reactions. A calm disposition even in times of crisis, a sense of humor, and the ability to laugh at oneself are paramount. These are traits that positively impact the organization as the changes take place that can be unsettling. Another important leadership quality is that of a singleness of purpose and focus which sends a message of confidence and determination that can inspire and motivate others. Collaboration with supporters or opponents is of equally vital importance as a quality of leadership. Bringing people together is the beginning of building bridges that can lead to solutions that foster significant societal challenges.

An effective leader of change is an unwavering visionary, passionately committed to a belief or a cause or a set of core values, and who can share this passion and conviction with others in and beyond their sphere of influence in a manner that brings positive change. ‘An effective leader of change sees things not as they are, but as they can be’, Claudet, J.G. (2016), and helps others to make sense of difficult situations. They promote new ways of thinking and expand the boundaries of what is possible in their area of passion. They have a strong moral commitment to enact bold change in that chosen space that they find so fulfilling to pursue. They have excellent relationship-building skills and are often easy-going and humorous.

I think the world needs courageous and innovative leaders more than ever before in modern times. Leaders who can alleviate their own and the fears of others and still be steadfast in unifying the organization towards innovatively getting through tough and challenging times.
